Becky grew up in Hornsea, East Yorkshire and spent many hours walking on the beach, collecting pebbles and sketching the sea. During studying for her Fine Art degree at Newcastle, she spent her 2nd year painting in Finland, which has had a lasting impression on her choice of colour palette and remains a strong influence in her work.
Nature and geometric formations inspire her paintings that have a starting point but then take their own form and direction during the process to disclose a hidden layer. Material experimentation and mark making are explored during painting to ensure that her work has an organic fluid feel but also has geometric boundaries of natural patterns.
Becky currently works using a combination of watercolour, ink, gouache and acrylic paints on 300gsm paper, her work is intuitive and she responds to natural patterns produced by the materials and finds solutions to visual issues as they arise.
Becky also often incorporates elements of printmaking techniques and finds that her paintings naturally develop from one to another, sometimes working on a few at the same time.
